Voires

Voires is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Voires is located on 619 m above sea level, 8 km east of Ornans and about 22 km southeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the west of the plateau of Valdahon on the edge of the Bois de la Bouhard, north of the Valley of the Loue.

The area of ​​4.88 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The entire area is occupied by the plateau of Valdahon, which is on average 620 m. It is partly consisted of arable and meadow land, partly by forest and rises to the east gradually. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. In the east, the municipality area extends into the vast forest area of the Bois de Bouhard, in the 709 meters, the highest elevation of Voires is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Voires are Guyans - Durnes in the north, Vernierfontaine in the east, Lavans- Vuillafans in the south and Durnes in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Voires belonged to the dominions Durnes and Châteauneuf ( at Vuillafans ). Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 1998 Voires is a member of the 44- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierre Fontaine - Vercel.

Population

With 58 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Voires is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 146 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1980s.

Economy and infrastructure

Voires was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are almost no jobs in the village. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Valdahon after Vuillafans. Another road connection with Durnes.
