Durnes

Durnes is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Durnes is located on 595 m above sea level, 6 km east of Ornans and about 21 km southeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the west of the plateau of Valdahon, beginning at the top of the valley of Vaux, north of the valley system of the Loue.

The area of ​​8:51 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The eastern part of the territory occupied by the plateau of Valdahon, which is on average 600 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land and rises to the east slightly. With 618 meters, the highest elevation of Durnes is achieved at the eastern edge community. History

In the 12th century the castle was built Durnes that belonged to a branch of the lords of Montgesoye and for a long time was the center of a reign. Next to the castle, the once-fortified spots Durnes developed. Later Durnes shared the fate of the rule of Châteauneuf ( at Vuillafans ). Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Durnes is a member of the 24 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays d' Ornans.

Attractions

The church of Notre -Dame de la Barêche stands in an open field south of the village. From 1854 comes the Chapel of Notre -Dame du Bon souvenir. In the village are farmhouses are preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Population

With 156 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Durnes is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 248 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.
