Boujailles

Boujailles is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Boujailles is located at 810 m above sea level, about 21 km west of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The former village street lines extending in the Jura, on the western edge of the broad plateaux of Arlier ( Pontarlier - Frasnian ).

The area of ​​28.22 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The whole area is occupied by the plateau of Arlier, which is on average 820 m. It is mostly covered by meadows, but it shows, especially in the border areas, some forest areas. Two small streams originate in Boujailles, flow after a short time in a swampy valley together and disappear into a hole sip. Otherwise, the plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. The area is bounded on the northwest by the elongated ribs of the terrain Forêt du Scay ( to 890 m ) and the Forêt du Maublin ( with 902 m the highest elevation of Boujailles ), on which to conduct low-lying plateau. In the east the municipality area extends to the wooded hilltop des Bois of the eye ( 865 m). To the south extends the communal land in the Grove of the Bois de Lézinnes, which belongs to the large forest area of the Forêt de la Joux.

Neighboring communities of Boujailles are Villers -sous- Chalamont and Levier in the north, Chapelle- d'Huin, Dompierre- les- Tileuls and Frasnian in the east, Courvières, Cuvier and Esserval - Tartre in the south and Supt and Lemuy in the West.

History

The territory of Boujailles was probably already inhabited during the Roman period. It lay on the trade route that led from Pontarlier to Salins, and of the visible at the transition in the forest area of ​​the Forêt du Scay today individual tracks. Since 2003 Boujailles is a member of the comprehensive 10 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Plateau de Frasnian et du Val du Drugeon.

Attractions

An outstanding building of Boujailles represents the twin parish church of Saint -Maurice, which was built from 1845 to 1849 in the Gothic Revival style inspired medieval churches. The Chapel Notre- Dame des Champs was built in 1707. Boujailles is right on the old salt road that led from the French coast on the Mediterranean via Switzerland and Austria to Italy. Population

With 412 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Boujailles one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Economy and infrastructure

Boujailles was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Levier after Censeau. Further road links exist with Villers -sous- Chalamont, Frasnian and Chapelle- d'Huin.
