Les Geneveys-sur-Coffrane

Geneveys -sur -Coffrane was a municipality in the district of Val -de- Ruz in the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. On January 1, 2013, it merged with the municipalities Boudevilliers, Cernier, Chézard -Saint- Martin, Coffrane, Dombresson, Engollon, Fenin- Vilars -Saules, Fontainemelon, Fontaines, Les Hauts- Geneveys Montmollin, Le Pâquier, Savagnier and Villiers to new municipality of Val -de- Ruz.

Geography

Geneveys -sur -Coffrane is located on 862 m above sea level. M., 7 km west-northwest of the capital of the canton of Neuchâtel (air line). The village is located in the southwest of the basin Val de Ruz in the Neuchâtel Jura, in a promising position on the eastern foot of Mont Racine.

The area of ​​7.9 km ² large municipality area includes a small section in the south west of the syncline of the Val de Ruz. History

The discovery of a Hammerbeils from the Neolithic period indicates a very early inspection and settlement of the municipality. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1370 under the name Les Genevois sus Corfrano. The etymology of the name is disputed.
