Les Villards-sur-Thônes

Les Villard -sur- Thones is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Les Villard -sur- Thones is at 758 m above sea level. M., northeast of Thones, about 18 km east of the town of Annecy (air line). The village is in the valley of Nom, in the central part of the Bornes Alps at the southern foot of the Mont Lachat.

The area of ​​13.32 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Bornes Alps. The area is crossed by northeast to southwest from Nom, a right tributary of Fier in a deep Talfurche. To the south, the municipality area on a wooded slope ranges on the Pointe de Beauregard (1647 m above sea level. M. ) to the extensive mountain pastures. In the north, the municipality of soil extends over a relatively steep slope to the crest of Mont Lachat, on with 2019 meters above sea level. History

For the first time the place in the 12th century is documented under the name Villari. The name dates back to the late Latin word villare (village, hamlet ).

Attractions

The village church of Les Villard -sur- Thones dates from the 19th century and has an onion dome. A chapel is located in the hamlet of Le Plan du Bourgeal. In the center different houses in the characteristic traditional architecture have survived.

Population

With 1019 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Les Villard -sur- Thones is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 20th century, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1901 were still 801 residents counted in Les Villard -sur- Thones ). Since the mid- 1970s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Les Villard -sur- Thones was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture and Alpine village. Today there are various operations of small businesses. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns around their work. In recent decades, Les Villard -sur- Thones benefited from its proximity to the ski resorts in the Bornes massif also by tourism.

The place is a good infrastructure. It lies on the secondary road D909 which leads from Annecy to La Clusaz.
