Entremont (Haute-Savoie)

Entremont is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Entremont is on 780 m above sea level. M., south of Bonneville, about 20 km east of the town of Annecy (air line). The mountain village is located in a valley on both sides of the Borne, in the midst of the Bornes Alps (part of the Savoy Alps ), at the northern foot of the Mont Lachat.

The area of ​​18.35 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Bornes Alps. The central part of the area is the valley of Entremont, which is traversed from south to north from Borne, a tributary of the Arve. From the southwest joins a short tributary at Entremont. The parish boundary runs along the partially formed of distinctive Felskreten heights which surround this kettle. In the northwest this is the Montagne of the eye (1909 m above sea level. M. ), in the southwest of Mont Lachat ( 2020 m above sea level with. M. the highest elevation of Entremont ) and east of the Roc de Charmieux (1878 m above sea level. M. ). Neighboring communities of Entremont are Le Petit- Bornand -les- Glière in the north, Grand -Bornand in the east, Saint -Jean -de- Sixt, Les Villard -sur- Thones and Thones in the south and La Balme -de- Thuy and Thorens- Glières in the West.

History

In Entremont, a priory was founded in the 12th century, which was raised in the 13th century the abbey. According to a new building in the 17th century, the abbey was abolished in the wake of the French Revolution.

Attractions

Originally dating from the 12th century village church was later rebuilt several times and contains a rich interiors and an important church treasures. From the abbey from the 12th respectively 17th century only a few remnants remain. Also worth mentioning are the Chapel of Notre -Dame de la Rivière and the Chapel of Le Regard.

Population

With 611 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Entremont is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 20th century, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1901 were still 589 residents counted in Entremont ). Since the mid- 1980s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Entremont was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture and Alpine ( cheese making) embossed village. Today, there are some operations of small businesses. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village region has a quite well developed. The main access is from Bonneville by the Borne valley. There are also road connections with Grand -Bornand and Saint -Jean -de -Sixt. The nearest links to the A40 motorway is located at a distance of around 17 km.
