Contamine-sur-Arve
Contamine -sur -Arve is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.
Geography
Contamine -sur -Arve, located at about 450 m above sea level. M., north of La Roche- sur -Foron, about 18 km southeast of the city of Geneva (air line). The village extends slightly increased on the eastern edge of the broad valley of the Arve in Faucigny, west of the ridge of Faucigny.
The area of 6.92 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the lower Arvetals. The western boundary runs along the Arve, which here flows at the outlet of the Savoy Alps by a broad gravel bed. Large parts of the river are inspired by nature and, of course, and have a characteristic riparian vegetation. From the Arve, the municipality's area extends eastward across the alluvial plain and the adjacent, mostly relatively gentile slope up to the ridge of Faucigny, on the 697 m above sea level. M. is achieved the highest elevation of Contamine -sur -Arve.

Neighboring communities of Contamine -sur -Arve are Fillinges in the north, Marcellaz, Peillonnex and Faucigny in the east, Bonneville and Arenthon in the south and Scientrier and Nangy in the West.
History
The territory of Contamine -sur -Arve was already inhabited in Roman times. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1119 under the name Condominium ( in the sense of co-managed property). The village developed beside the Cluniac Priory founded in 1083 Sainte -Marie. In the Middle Ages Contamine -sur -Arve belonged to the field of rule Faucigny. As part of the Dauphiné reached the place in 1349 in France, but was delivered in a country Abtausch to the Counts of Savoy under the Treaty of Paris in 1355. Attractions

Population
With 1599 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Contamine -sur -Arve one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the early 1970s, a significant population growth was recorded thanks to the beautiful residential area. Especially in the area of Pouilly numerous single-family homes were built.
Economy and infrastructure
Contamine -sur -Arve was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. On the sun-exposed slopes above the village wine production. The village has a good infrastructure. It lies on the main road N205 that runs from Annemasse to Bonneville. The nearest links to the A40 motorway is located at a distance of about 4 km.
