Scientrier

Scientrier is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Scientrier located at about 450 m above sea level. M., north of La Roche- sur -Foron, about 17 km southeast of the city of Geneva (air line). The village is in the midst of the broad valley of the Arve, west of the ridge of Faucigny.

The area of ​​7.21 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the lower Arvetals. The northeastern border runs along the Arve, which here flows at the outlet of the Savoy Alps by a broad gravel bed. Large parts of the river are inspired by nature and, of course, and have a characteristic riparian vegetation. From the Arve, the municipality's area extends westward across the flood plain and the broad, gently sloping valley. Near Crédoz is 490 m above sea level. History

The territory of Scientrier been inhabited since prehistoric times, and during the Roman period. The place name is first mentioned in writing until the early 15th century.

Attractions

The village church of Scientrier with an onion tower was built in the 19th century. Near the village there are two castles: Château de Vivier ( from the 16th century, rebuilt in the 19th century) and the Château de Bossy ( 15th century ).

Population

With 1087 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Scientrier one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the mid- 1970s, a significant population growth was recorded.

Economy and infrastructure

Scientrier was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various companies of small and medium enterprises. Near the main road was a commercial zone in which companies of metal construction, wood processing and the transport industry settled. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, but especially in the Geneva - Annemasse, their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road N503 that runs from Annemasse to La Roche- sur -Foron. The municipal area is the motorway junction where the A41 meets the A40. The nearest links to the A40 is located at a distance of about 6 km.
