Lesbos Prefecture

The Greek prefecture of Lesbos (Greek Λέσβος ( f sg ), Lésvos ) was one of three prefectures of the Administrative Region of North Aegean ( Vorio Egeo Βόρειο Αιγαίο ) and included the islands of Lesbos, Limnos ( Λήμνος ) and Agios Efstratios ( Άγιος Ευστράτιος ) and some small, surrounding islands of the northeastern Aegean Sea. Within the prefecture Limnos was represented by its own provincial office ( gr eparchío, επαρχείο ). The prefecture was established in 1915 and ruled by the administrative seat of Mytilene; with the administrative reform in 2010 went their responsibilities to the region North Aegean and the now three municipalities, corresponding to the three inhabited islands, about. At the same time it was divided into two regional districts Lesbos, and Lemnos, but abegesehen of the seat allocation for the Regional Council have no political significance.

Municipalities 1997-2010

The prefecture was divided into seventeen townships ( δήμος, Dimos ) and a rural municipality ( κοινότητα, Kinotita ).
