Leslie Knighton

Albert Leslie Knighton ( born March 15, 1884 in Church Gresley, Derbyshire, † 10 May 1959 Bournemouth ) was an English football coach.

Career

After brief interludes as an assistant coach at Huddersfield Town and Manchester City, he was coach of FC Arsenal in 1919. During his time with the " Gunners ", he was one of the first coaches that have been implicated in doping. He gave the players in front of the FA Cup final in 1925 " small silvery pills ", which should increase the energy of the players. The pills were effective, but the players did not want to take these pills because they were afraid to damage their health. 1925 Knighton was fired from Arsenal FC and then moved to Bournemouth and Boscombe club. From 1928 to 1933 he was coach of FC Birmingham. In 1933 he returned to London and was for six years head coach of FC Chelsea.
