Lester Lyles

Lester L. Lyles ( born April 20, 1946 in Washington, DC ) is a retired American general in the U.S. Air Force, who was both Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force and commander of Air Force Materiel Command.

Life

After schooling, he studied mechanical engineering at Howard University, this graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BS Mechanical Engineering ) and then joined the U.S. Air Force. A post-graduate studies in the fields of mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering at New Mexico State University ( NMSU ), he finished in 1969 with a Master of Science (MS Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering ).

After use as a Director of the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization from 1996 to 1999, he was appointed General in 1999 Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force. Subsequently, he was most recently from 2000 until his retirement in 2003 commander of Air Force Materiel Command at Wright - Patterson Air Force Base, is one of nine major commands of the U.S. Air Force.

During his military career, he has won several awards and has won both the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal, the Defense Distinguished Service Medal.

After his retirement from active military service, he joined the private sector and in 2003 a member of the board of directors of General Dynamics, 2007 by KBR and 2008 by Precision Castparts. He was also temporarily a member of the boards of directors of DPL, Inc., MTC Technologies, Inc. and USAA. In addition, he has been involved since 2006 as a member of the Board of Directors of the Battelle Institute and as a member of the boards of directors of the Air Force Association and of the American Security Project.
