Let's Hear It for the Boy (song)

Let's Hear It for the Boy is a song by Deniece Williams from 1984, which was written by Tom Snow and Dean Pitchford. The song is 4:20 minutes long and appeared on the same album. He was in the movie Footloose use.

Formation

The song was written for the film Footloose, and finds use in a scene in which Kevin Bacon teaches the awkward Chris Penn dancing. Originally another piece was intended for the scene but whose but the crew was tired after about eight months of filming. As screenwriter Dean Pitchford reported that the parties wanted a new, fresher song with female vocals. So he wrote a new text on a girl that her boyfriend is great, although he always kicks her while dancing to his feet, Tom Snow composed a melody to it. Pitchford knew Deniece Williams of the work on the theme song to High Road to the end of the world, and he asked Williams and producer George Duke on, record the song. With the first take he was not satisfied because he Williams' song " too girlish " appeared. However, Williams was at the time back in New York City, but the studio was located in Los Angeles. The singer was flown in at short notice and took the evening by 23 clock within 20 minutes of the song once more. Williams did not know until the movie premiere, in what scene their song is used.

Charts and Awards

The song was released on 14 February 1984 and a number -one hit in the United States and Canada. The single was the second of five Top 40 hits from the soundtrack to the film Footloose. The song was nominated for the Academy Awards in 1985, but lost to Stevie Wonder I Just Called to Say I Love You. Let's Hear It for the Boy was honored by the Recording Industry Association of America with platinum.

Music Video

At the beginning of the video a boy sitting alone in a classroom next to a chalkboard that said " I will not fidget " ( "I will not fidget ") stands. He fidgets with his legs and is astonished by Deniece Williams' show. Both dance in class and go into another room, where a young man playing on a piano. Williams lays on a plate, which he also begins to dance. Thereafter, Williams finds himself amidst a football game again. The video ends with everyone dancing.
