LeVar Burton

Levardis Robert Martyn Burton, Jr. ( born February 16, 1957 in Landstuhl ) is an American actor, director and author.

Life

Burton was born the son of a U.S. soldier in Landstuhl. He became better known in 1977 for his role as Kunta Kinte in the television series Roots. He played in an abducted from Africa slaves, who must survive in the New World in appalling conditions.

In 1983, Burton worked as a producer and host of the children's program Reading Rainbow. The format was over 23 years and was the longest running children's program in the U.S.. For his role as host and its function as a producer Burton was awarded a total of twelve Emmies.

Later, he played his most famous role as a blind chief engineer Geordi La Forge in the series Star Trek: The Next Generation, which can only be seen through a special device, a technologically advanced prosthesis called " Visor". Burton was also involved in the direction of many of the various Star Trek series episodes. 1990 Burton received a star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood.

In 2001 he published the science fiction novel After (Original Title: Aftermath ).
