Libera (mythology)

Libera is a goddess of Roman mythology. She was the female counterpart of Liber, the god of fertility and wine. Together with Ceres and Liber they formed the triad Aventinische. Your counterpart in the Eleusinian triad was Persephone, daughter of Demeter. In Ovid it is with Ariadne, the wife of Dionysus identified.

Your sanctuary was in the form of an own Cella in the temple of Ceres on the Aventine Hill in Rome. Your annual festival they had in common with Liber, which took place on March 17 Liberalia. For a cult outside of Rome there is little evidence, except in the provinces of Dacia, Dalmatia and Pannonia, where Liber and Libera probably occurred as interpretatio romana of a local divine couple, and they found numerous dedicatory inscriptions.
