Lieråsen Tunnel

Lieråsen tunnel is a railway tunnel in Norway. He is in the course of Drammenbane between Oslo and Drammen, more precisely between the Asker station in Akershus and the stopping place Lier in Buskerud. The tunnel is 10,723 feet long. Tunnel construction lasted from 1963 to 1971, for the traffic it was released in 1973. He was Norway's longest railway tunnel until the tunnel Romeriksporten was opened in 1999.

The tunnel reduced the travel time on the railway line between Oslo and Drammen considerably, because the track is now double-tracked in this area. The single-track line resulted in a large curving around Spikkestad in Røyken and Lierbyen in the municipality of Lier. Since the tunnel opening the railway line between Asker and Spikkestad is used only for local traffic. The section between Spikkestad and Drammen was shut down and now operates as a cycle path between Brakerøya and Lierbyen about Reistad to Gullaugkleiva. It is planned in 2012, another cycle path to get from the Gullaugkleiva on the old route by Spikkestad.

The tunnel was designed for an operating life of 30 years. During this period, no major repairs should pay. Due to uncontrolled water penetration in the unlit tunnel already had to be started after 20 years of restoration work, as the concrete sleepers began to break down, leading to rail breaks. In addition, there were problems with falling boulders that were collected with attached networks.
