Lieutenant Governor's Award for Literary Excellence

The Lieutenant Governor's Award for Literary Excellence is a Canadian literary award, which is administered by the BC Book Prizes and is awarded separately since 2004 to honor both the special share in the development of the literary quality of Canadian literature in British Columbia of a writer or a writer as well as highlight the substantial part of his literary oeuvre during his literary career.

The winner receives a financial recognition of 5,000 Canadian dollars and a worthy end certificate.

Prehistory

The Lieutenant Governor's Award for Literary Excellence experienced its first developments in the spring of 2002. Led by the experienced and award- winning author Carol Shields, a group hit by renowned writers of British Columbia with the former provincial governor of British Columbia (Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia), the honorable Iona Campagnolo to call a special provincial literary prize in life. Inspired by Carol Shields resulted from this meeting, the establishment of the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Literary Excellence, which is awarded as all other seven literary awards of the BC Book Prizes since 2004 in April of each year.
