Lighthouse (Band)

Lighthouse is a Canadian rock band that was founded in 1968. With brass and string section they mix rock, jazz and classical elements. They won three Juno Awards 1972-74. After the group disbanded in 1976, it enters 1992 again.

History

Lighthouse was founded in 1968 by Skip Prokop (drums, vocals) and Paul Hoffert (keyboards) in Toronto. Their idea was a rock band consisting of three sections: a rock rhythm section of a jazz horn section and a classical string section. The original lineup had 13 members.

The first appearance of the band took place in Toronto on May 14, 1969. In her first year, she played among others at Carnegie Hall, the Fillmore East, Fillmore West, the Atlantic City Pop Festival and the Monterey and Newport jazz festivals. In 1970, she played the Strawberry Fields Festival and the Isle of Wight Festival.

Their first two albums, Light House and Suite Feeling, came in 1969 with RCA out. After the third album Peacing It All Together ( 1970) the band moved to GRT. With a few line-up changes they brought in 1971 two albums on the market: One Fine Morning and Thoughts of Movin ' On, which both reached gold status in Canada. RCA benefited from the success and published a best-of album called One Fine Light, based on the first three albums.

Lighthouse was 300 days a year on tour. In addition, they were the first rock band to perform with symphony orchestras, including the " Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company " - the project that went on tour in Canada, called Ballet High.

Lighthouse Live! was recorded in February 1972 in Carnegie Hall. It was the first Canadian album reached platinum status. The next studio album, Sunny Days, they received gold again. Hoffert left the band in 1973, but remained her producer. After the album Good Day the following year also went Prokop. The band stayed together for some time before they disbanded in 1976.

In September 1982, there was a reunion of Lighthouse for four concerts in Ontario. 1989 appeared in Denon Records The Best of Lighthouse - Sunny Days Again. Since 1992 Lighthouse occur again. In 1995, the album Song of the Ages came out at Breaking Records. The single Remember the Times was a Top 30 hit in Canada.

Lighthouse won three Juno Awards: 1972 in the category " Outstanding Performance of the Year - Group," 1973 "Vocal Instrumental Group often he Year" and in 1974 as the "Group of the Year".
