The Glossy privet or glossy privet ( Ligustrum lucidum ) is a large shrub or small tree in the family Oleaceae. Its distribution area is located in China and Korea.

Description

The Glossy privet is an evergreen or deciduous, occupied up to 25 meters tall shrub or tree with bare stems and branches with Korkporen. The leaves have a 1 to 3 cm long petiole. The leaf blade is simple, leathery, 6-17 cm long and 3-8 cm wide, ovate lanceolate, acute or acuminate with wide wedge base. The upper leaf surface is glossy dark green, the underside is lighter than the top. There shall be six to eight clearly visible on both leaf surfaces pairs of nerves.

The flowers are up to 500 at 12 to 20 inches long and as wide panicles. The cream-colored single flowers are sessile or nearly sessile. You have an approximately 1.5 to 2 mm wide chalice, 4-5 mm wide corolla and corolla tube of similar length as the corolla lobes. The stamens extend to the lobes of the corolla, the anthers are 1 to 1.5 millimeters long. The fruits are kidney-shaped, 7-10 mm long and 4-6 mm broad, deep blue-black berries. The species flowers from May to July.

Distribution and ecology

The natural range is located in the temperate zone of Asia in China and Korea. In Africa, Australia, New Zealand, North and South America, he was naturalized. The species grows in steppes and dry forests at altitudes up to 2900 meters on fresh, mildly acidic to mildly alkaline, sandy- loamy to loamy, moderately fertile soil in light to partial shade. It is frost hardy and moderately warm temperatures.

Use

The Glossy privet is rarely used forestry. Due to the decorative flowers used as ornamental tree, whereas several varieties are distinguished, including ' Tricolor' with pink young and older leaves yellow and ' excelsum Superbum ' with deep yellow variegated leaves and small white towards the edge cream flowers. Although the berries are poisonous, they are used in China to prevent bone marrow loss, for chemotherapy and AIDS and hepatitis.
