Limanu

Limanu ( Turkish Karaçuklu ) is a municipality in the district of Constanta in Romania, located in the historical region Dobruja.

History

Limanu was founded in 1863 by Turkish- Tatar settlers.

Population

In the census of 2002 4.747 people, including 4,180 Romanians, 297 Lipovans, 186 Tartars, 59 Roma, 13 Hungary 8 and Turks were counted. 4,235 people are Orthodox Christians, 261 Old Believers Christians, 195 Muslims, 22 Baptists, 13 members of the Pentecostal church and 12 Roman Catholics.

The town itself had 2,300 inhabitants; the population of the municipality, which includes the villages of Vama Veche, 2 May and Hagieni, 2004 was 4,771 inhabitants.
