Lina Nyberg

Lina Nyberg ( born February 27, 1970 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish jazz singer and composer.

Life and work

Nyberg grew up in an artist's home and discovered fourteen jazz. At eighteen, she appeared in public and sang first with Bernt Rosengren, Nisse Sandström and Fredrik Norén. In 1990, she founded her own quintet, but was accompanied on her debut album Esbjörn Svensson Close only. Between 1991 and 1993 she studied at the Royal Academy of Music. She played until 2011, fourteen albums and toured Europe, Japan, Vietnam, Canada and Brazil; with Magnus Lindgren she arranged Brazilian music for their common big band album Brasil Big Bom. For her quintet include 2012 Cecilia Persson ( piano ), David Stackenäs (guitar), Joseph Kallerdahl (bass) and Peter Danemo (drums). She also worked with John Taylor, Marilyn Crispell, Anders Jormin, Rigmor Gustafsson and Jacob Karlzon ( joint album Temper, 2008).

Nyberg founded in April 2006, the network IMPRA entering for gender equality in the musical life. She is married to Fredrik Ljungkvist.

Prizes and awards

In 1995 she received a Swedish Grammy for her second album When the Smile Shines Through. Even their album Open was nominated for a Swedish Grammy. In 2002 she received as a "courageous and mature musician ", which their material resistant umforme that Jazzkannan, the Prize of the Swedish Jazz Association.
