Linda Lingle

Linda Lingle ( born June 4, 1953 as Linda Cutter in St. Louis, Missouri) is an American politician ( Republican). Of 2 December 2002 to 6 December 2010, she served as the sixth Governor of the State of Hawaii.

Those born in St. Louis, Missouri Lingle moved at the age of twelve years with her family in Southern California and graduated from Birmingham High School in Lake Balboa, a district of Los Angeles. In 1975, she earned a Bachelor in the field of journalism at California State University at Northridge. Shortly after, she followed her father to Hawaii, where she first worked in Honolulu and later on Molokai own newspaper, the Molokai Free Press brought out. From 1990 to 1998 she was mayor of Maui County.

In 1998 she ran for the first time as governor, but was defeated by Democratic incumbent Ben Cayetano scarce. Then she stood up to 2002 of the Republican Party before at the state level. This year, she was then allowed to prevail in their second nomination with 51.6 percent of the vote against Mazie Hirono Deputy Governor. In 2006 she succeeded with a clear victory against Randy Iwase reelection.

With Lingles first election some peculiarities were connected. She was the first female governor of Hawaii, first Jewish governor, the first without children, and the first, which was already twice divorced. After eight years in office, they could not run again; Lieutenant Governor James Aiona her, who competed for her successor, lost to Democrat Neil Abercrombie, who replaced Linda Lingle on December 6, 2010.
