Lucius E. Pinkham

Lucius Eugene Pinkham ( born September 19, 1850 in Chicopee, Hampden County, Massachusetts, † November 2, 1922 in San Francisco, California ) was the fourth Governor of Hawaii Territory and held this office from 1913 to 1918 held. Pinkham was the first member of the Democratic Party in this position.

Career

Lucius Pinkham was born 1850 in Chicopee. He moved to Hawaii in 1892 to a turnover of goods for coal ( coal handling plant) for the Oahu Railway & to build the country. Furthermore, it monitored well projects for the sugar plantations.

1904 Pinkham was appointed Chairman of the territorial health authority (Board of Health ). During this time germinated in him the idea to reclamation of wetlands of Waikiki over a two- mile-long drainage channel. Although the idea was approved by the health authority, the plan was only tackled as Pinkham was appointed territorial governor by President Woodrow Wilson in 1913.

As still visible testimony of Pinkham's term of office later this Ala Wai Canal called hydraulic structure and the associated draining of the marshes of Waikiki apply. Both elements contributed, located Waikiki could develop into a tourist center.

Pinkham passed away on November 2, 1922 in San Francisco.
