Linton (Cambridgeshire)

Linton is a village in Cambridgeshire, England, not far from the border with Essex. It has greatly expanded since the 1960s and is today inhabited by many commuters. The station of the former Stour Valley Railway between Cambridge and Colchester is closed since 1967. The water tower on the Rivey Hill is a highly visible landmark. The River Granta (or Cam) flows through the town.

Along the High Street there are three pubs serving quality food to some extent, as well as an Indian restaurant. In the south there is the privately run Linton Zoo and to the north lies the vineyard Chilford Hall. There are several shops and businesses in Linton, some of them in the industrial area The Grip.

Train

There are four schools in Linton: Linton CofE Infant School in the town center at St. Mary's Church for children 4 to 7 lies in the direction Bartlow Linton Heights Junior School for children 7 to 11 Linton Village College for young people from 11 to 16 situated on the A1307, the main road from Haverhill. The nearby Granta School is one of six special schools for children 3-9 with special needs.

Fictional Hotel

Linton was known by the fictional character Alan Partridge of English actor Steve Coogan, who once his extended stay in the equally fictional Linton Travel Tavern thus warranted that they would be halfway between London and Norwich. The BBC's TV movie but was shot in the Hilton Hotel, on the A41 in Bushey.
