List of ancient Egyptian papyri

The list of papyri of ancient Egypt includes papyri found in Egypt. The structure is called alphabetically and each known names, the further name or the real name of each papyrus is enclosed in parentheses.

General

The data from the different eras of Egyptian history papyrus have been written in different scripts and languages ​​, not only in hieroglyphics. The majority, however, has been written with the hieratic and demotic writings, which are all concerns writings with which texts were written in Egyptian language. Out of Egypt papyri originate in other languages, including Aramaic, Greek or Arabic. The following list contains only papyri in Egyptian language, but no Coptic manuscripts. The papyri are preserved only in fragments for the most part. The contents are varied and next to the Egyptian Book of the Dead and the king list also include various administrative documents such as invoices or documents of lawsuits, medical texts, mathematical calculations, literary stories, life lessons, maps and texts from the Christian environment.

Their different names or designations received by each papyri either from their buyers, explorers or owner or the respective fund or depository. Another designation of the documents is done by naming the storage location and additional numbering, such as Papyrus Berlin 3048th
