This is a list of museums in Italy. Due to its cultural richness has Italy with about 1,500 art museums in the world's highest concentration of museums. The museums also form an important basis for tourism in Italy.

Museums according to visitor numbers
An annually published by the Italian Touring Club study on the numbers of visitors of the thirty most visited museums in Italy calculated for these museums a total of about 23 million visitors for the year 2008. Representing approximately a quarter of all visitors to the 3,800 museums and 1,800 archaeological sites in Italy.
Note: The Vatican City is a sovereign state and an enclave within the city of Rome.
