List of national parks of Costa Rica

The national parks in Costa Rica represent protection and rest rooms of endangered flora and fauna and are thus directly protect the environment. Some species can only be observed nor there. Reserves

Overall, 25.6 percent of the area of Costa Rica are under general nature.   • National Monument ( Monumento Nacional): historical or archaeological significance Sites ( 2008: the only National Monument Guayabo excavations )
  • National Nature Reserve ( Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre ): protection of certain species of animals, are a precursor to the Biological Reserves and National Parks is, they are not managed by the SINAC, but by the Dirección General de Vida Silvestre.

In addition to the state-managed protected areas, there are other private initiatives for the protection of animals and plants. A project with Austrian participation is the Rainforest of the Austrians.

National Parks

About half of the area of ​​protected areas (over eleven percent of the area of Costa Rica ) is occupied by national parks.
