List of national parks of the Dominican Republic

In the Dominican Republic there are the following national parks:

  • " Parque Nacional Armando Bermúdez ": In the midst of the Cordillera Central, with the highest mountains of the Caribbean: the 3098 meter high Pico Duarte, the 3097 meter high La Pelona, the 3039 meter high Loma La Rucilla and the 2760 meter high Yaque.
  • " Parque Nacional Del Este ": the southeast of the island between La Romana and the estuary of the Río Yuna. This includes the charming Isla Saona. Over 110 species of birds live in the park, also dolphins and manatees ( sea cows ). The national park has a size of 430 square kilometers. The coastal landscape is dominated by sandy beaches, cliffs and mangrove swamps. This park is the most visited National Park in the Dominican Republic. From Bayahibe from tours to Isla Saona are offered daily. Mostly run on the way to the island with a speedboat, back you go slowly with a sailing catamaran.
  • " Parque Nacional Jaragua ": even further south of the Parque Nacional Sierra De Baoruco. These include the Bahia De Las Águilas, the Laguna de Manel Matos, Isla Beata and the Laguna Oviedo and the caves El Guanal, Cueva La Cueva Poza and Mongo, where one finds Taino painting. The oldest finds of the indigenous native population to the year 2590 BC back. In the National Park Jaragua live 130 species of birds.
  • " Parque Nacional José Del Carmen Ramírez ": slightly southwest from the Parque Nacional Armando Bermúdez, north of the town of San Juan de la Maguana, directly south of the 2,802 -meter-high Loma De La Viuda.
  • " Parque Nacional Lago Enriqillo e Isla Cabritos " located on the island of Isla Cabritos at 36 meters below sea salt lake Lago Enriquillo in the southwest of the country near the border to Haiti.
  • " Parque Nacional Monte Cristi ": In the far northwest west of Monte Cristi. These include the 7 islands " Siete Hermanos " in the Bahía de Monte Cristi.
  • " Parque Nacional Los Haitises ": south of Bahía de Samaná. Probably the most famous National Park in the Dominican Republic with its interesting geological formations
  • " Parque Nacional Sierra De Baoruco ": south of Lake Enriquillo, west of the city of Barahona, San Rafael which has the Playa de Barahona, Playa Playa Saladilla and also delightful beaches. The highest elevations of over seven vegetation zones extending parks in the Sierra Baoruco are 2368 and 2085 meters high.
  • " Parque Nacional Isabel De Torres " in Puerto Plata; you can take the cable car " teleférico " to nearly 800 meters up. Upstairs there are a statue of Christ and a botanical garden, including with indigenous species of orchids.
  • " Parque Nacional Pérez Rancier " Valle Nuevo in Constanza; Highlands in the southeast foothills of the Cordillera Central, the youngest national park in the country.
  • " Cueva de la Maravillas " - " Cave of Wonders ", near San Pedro de Macoris on the south coast. 35 meters below the surface you will find painting the Tainos, the indigenous inhabitants of the island of Hispaniola.
  • Parque Nacional " El Choco " and " Las cuevas de Cabarete " - the caves of Cabarete. Located less than two kilometers from the center of the famous surf paradise Cabarete on the north coast ( Puerto Plata province ) there are underground caves where you can swim. With rented horses you can ride in the mountains of the National Park.
