List of ophiolites

Ophiolites are a sequence of ultramafic and mafic igneous rocks. It is believed that they represent the equivalents of former oceanic Lithosphärenbereiche (especially the oceanic crust ). Although ophiolites occur worldwide, but are closely associated with Orogenbildungen in their occurrence. Meantime, they can be traced back approximately two billion years to the Paleoproterozoic.

In the following list, the ophiolites are sorted by continent. Formation age (B ), space acquisition (P) and type (T), where known, is also given.
