Occupation

Importance of the album

Before the Monks a recording contract for her album Black Monk Time (1966 ) received, which published ten specimens were taken in September 1965 in Ludwigsburg in a single day. They were not intended for publication, but should be thought of as a demo recording the group to allow a contract with a record company. By Philips and by Ariola The Monks were rejected, but accepted by the Polydor end of 1965. Their producer Jimmy Bowien, known for his collaboration with Franz -Josef Degenhardt, saw in the quintet, the band of the future.

The album contains these recordings also a few shots from April 1965, playing in the same team precursor band, The Five Torquay and a re- mix of the year 2006. A published under the title Five Upstart Americans 1999 bootleg version includes the tracks in a different order. In retrospect, the early recordings of Monks appear as a blueprint of their first and only album. The demo tapes were the two documentary filmmakers Dietmar Post and Lucía Palacios as the basis for their film monks - the transatlantic feedback. Based on these early recordings, it was the film artists possible to track the exact creative process of the band of the first attempts towards the final sound of the band.
