List of web service specifications

In WS-* is a class of specifications in the context of Web services with SOAP / WSDL. The WS -* specifications are industrial standards of the World Wide Web Consortium W3C and the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards OASIS in occasionally changing the leadership.

As part of the WS -* specifications, a number of standards have been defined, each call to a specific application area, which was not specified in SOAP / WSDL and has its own domain. All the specifications are modular designed, so they can be changed and used independently of each other and can be combined to do so. All specifications are based on the basic functions of SOAP / WSDL and expand it.

A SOAP message is composed basically of a body and an optional header. Most modules of the WS-* specification family lay their information from the header of a SOAP message, which has the consequence that is not optional in this case the header.

The term WS-* lies in the fact that the names of all specifications with the prefix " WS " to start, as they relate to web services. The asterisk is a placeholder for the following specific parts of designations dar. However, it has WS-* never officially defined, much more is a term that has only just naturalized later.

Basic principles

  • Composability ( Composability ): Each specification is aimed exactly at one of applications and can be combined with other specifications.
  • Interoperability: Standardization, it is possible to construct platform-independent and composite systems across system boundaries.
