Lithuanian parliamentary election, 1992

The parliamentary elections in Lithuania in 1992 took place on 20 October and 10 November 1992. It was the first election since 1990 in the independent Lithuania.

Electoral system

It 141 seats in the Lithuanian Parliament ( Seimas ) were redetermined. 71 were proportionally allocated to the parties that skipped the four- percent threshold. The remaining 71 were given as direct mandates. The right to vote is thus a mixed system of majoritarian and proportional representation, called grave electoral system. The legislature was four years.

Election result

Election winner was 43.98 percent, the Democratic Labor Party of Lithuania ( LDDP ). She received an absolute majority with 73 of 141 seats in parliament. In second place the Sąjūdis movement ended up with 21.17 percent. Third strongest force was the party of the Christian Democrats of Lithuania ( LKDP ) with 12.61 percent.
