The parliamentary elections in Lithuania in 2000 took place on 8 October 2000.
Electoral system
It 141 seats in the Lithuanian Parliament ( Seimas ) were redetermined. 70 were awarded in proportion to the parties that the 5 percent hurdle jumped over (7- percent threshold for list connections). The remaining 71 were given as direct mandates. The right to vote is thus a mixed system of majoritarian and proportional representation, called grave electoral system. The legislature was 4 years.
Election result
Election winner with 31.08 percent was the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania ( LSDP ). In second place, the New Union landed ( Social Liberals) (NS) with 19.64 percent. Third strongest force was the Liberal Union of Lithuania (LLS ) with 17.25 percent.
