Lochboisdale

Lochboisdale ( Scottish Gaelic Loch Baghasdail ) is with about 1100 inhabitants, is the main population center of the island of South Uist, Outer Hebrides, Scotland.

The city benefited from the herring boom in the 19th century, and in 1880 an investor for steamer was built. 1905 was followed by a mission church, and by 1953 emerged ferry connections with Oban, Castlebay, Mallaig and Loch Maddy.

Lochboisdale today is the ferry terminal for the island of South Uist. The Waterfront has undergone changes since the old buildings either renovated or demolished for the purpose of construction of new tenements residential and commercial buildings. At the ferry terminal there still stands the Lochboisdale hotel, which was built in the late 19th century. Lochboisdale owns near the ferry dock is also a post office and a police station and a church of the Free Church of Scotland.
