South Uist

South Uist ( Scottish Gaelic: Uibhist a Deas ) is the second largest island of the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. It measures about 35 by 11 kilometers. The capital and one of the main ferry ports of the Outer Hebrides is Lochboisdale ( Scottish Gaelic: Loch Baghasdal ).

North of South Uist is the island of North Uist. In the north -west of the island of South Uist are located since the 1950s, a test facility and launch sites for sounding rockets and military missiles. It was used by British here launchers from Skua and Petrel.

On the group consisting of North and South Islands are a series of prehistoric monuments, so Dun Vulan, Kilpheder and South Clettraval.
