Lödderitz is a district of the town Barby in Salzlandkreis in Saxony- Anhalt.

Geography

Lödderitz midst of the Biosphere Reserve Middle Elbe located in a flat area surrounded by wetlands, near the mouth of the river Saale in the same. The city of Dessau is situated 18 km to the east, calbe (Saale ), about 14 km west of Lödderitz.

For the former municipality Lödderitz belonged to the district Rajoch.

History

The place Lödderitz is of Slavic origin, but only appeared in 1330 for the first time in a document on which the district Rajoch 200 years earlier.

Lödderitz centuries was often exposed to Elbe floods. From the middle of the 19th century began, the arable land which was reclaimed from the marshes embank. Northeast of Lödderitz evolved from the nature reserve Steckby - Lödderitzer forestry - as a biosphere reserve in 1979, recognized by UNESCO as such - to the major flood plains extended Biosphere Reserve Middle Elbe. In the floodplains are leaving now nature itself - the constant change of high and low water has created a unique landscape here in Central Europe.

On January 1, 2010, the formerly independent communities Lödderitz, Breitenhagen, Glindemann, United Roseburg, Pömmelte, Saxony village, Tornitz, wasps and Zuchau and the city Barby (Elbe ) merged to form the new town of Barby. At the same time the management of Community Elbe- Saale, was among the Lödderitz was dissolved.

Personalities

• Eduard Adolph Nobiling (1801-1882), a hydraulic engineer, born in Lödderitz
• Gustav Adolf von Nordenflycht (1846-1921), forester in the Forest District Lödderitz (1893-1920), author and editor of publications on issues of hunting.
