Lodewijk Asscher

Lodewijk Frans Asscher ( born September 27, 1974 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch lawyer and politician of Partij van de Arbeid ( PvdA). Since November 2012, he is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Labour in the Cabinet Rutte II

Asscher studied law at the University of Amsterdam and received his doctorate there. By 2006 he was a lecturer in IT law at the same university.

He was elected to the municipal council of Amsterdam in 2002, 2004 he was also Chairman of the Group. From 2006 to 2010 and from 2010 to 2012 he was Assistant Secretary ( Wethouder ) for, among other things, finance. Because of the premature Wegganges by Mayor Job Cohen he was three and a half months in 2010 appointed acting mayor of the capital. In November 2012, Asscher Dutch Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Labour.

Asscher paternal comes from a prominent Jewish family. His great-grandfather Abraham Asscher was co-chairman of the Jewish Council of Amsterdam and his uncle Edward Asscher is an entrepreneur ( Koninklijke Asscher Diamant Maatschappij ) and a former member of the First Chamber for the VVD. His mother, Irene Asscher - Vonk, was also a lecturer in law and was a member of the Social -Economic Council (SER ); his uncle Hans Vonk was a noted conductor.

Lodewijk Asscher is married and has three children.
