Logan is a municipality in Quay County in the U.S. state of New Mexico.

Geography

Logan is located on the eastern shore of Ute Lake, 300 km east of Albuquerque and 150 miles west of the Texan city of Amarillo. The town is crossed by the Canadian River and touches on the east by U.S. Highway 54.

History

The first house in the area of present-day Logan was built in 1901 when the Chicago, rock Iceland and Pacific Railroad built a railroad bridge over the Canadian River. The place was named after a native of Texas, former Marshal Eugene Logan, who was also instrumental in the bridge. In the years 1963 and 1964, the Ute Dam was built, the dams up the waters of the Canadian River to Ute Lake and is also provided with a spillway. Due to the geographical position is therefore occasionally Logan, freely translated as Best Little Village by a Dam Site called " The prettiest small town on a dam ".

On 23 March 2007, the city was hit by a tornado, which caused significant damage to a large number of mobile homes and trailers, but no human lives.

Demography

In 2012 a population of 1008 persons was determined, which represents a decrease of 7.9% compared to the year 2000. The average age of residents stood in 2012 at 53.9 years, well above the average of New Mexico, which was 45.5 years.

The most authoritative immigration groups during the beginnings of the town came to 11.2% from Germany to 10.3% in Ireland and 8.4% in England.
