London Underground 1995 Stock

London Underground 1995 Tube Stock (or short only 95 tube stick ) is a line of electric railcar, which is used at the London Northern Line. Contrary to the usual London Underground convention, a name derived not from from the year of the planned commissioning (1996 ), but the different name to avoid confusion with the 1996 Tube Stock which has previously been ordered and should be put into service in 1996 and also on the Jubilee Line is used.

History

The series was ordered by the previously used on the Northern Line trains of 1959 Tube Stock types and 1972 Mk I replace tube stick and was built by Alstom in Birmingham. The vehicles are leased for a period of 25 years and maintained during this period by an Alstom - daughter and asked for the daily operation available. The first train was put into service on 12 June 1998, the last vehicle comes since 10 April 2001 on the application.

Train composition and details

The 1995 Tube Stock is made of semi- trains, each consisting of a Driving Motor Car (DM), Trailer Car ( T) and a Uncoupling Non Driving Motor Car ( UNDM ). A Driving Motor Car is equipped with a driving cab and drive motors, one Uncoupling Non Driving Motor Car has even drive motors, but not a full cab, but only a Rangierfahrschalter to shunting in depots allow. However, use in passenger service is required and necessary for complete 6- car trains.

The vehicles are very similar to, recently ordered and also built by Alstom, trains of 1996 Tube Stock in outward appearance, the car bodies are, with few details identical. The built for the Jubilee Line 1996 Tube Stock was originally intended to be used together with older trains of type 1983 tube stick, so have both series, in contrast to the slightly older 1992 Tube Stock for example get relatively flat window so that the vehicles the 1983 Tube Stock look similar. Despite their outward similarity, the two series differ in interior design and technical features, as the younger uses 1995 Tube Stock IGBTs instead of GTO thyristors to convert the direct current into three-phase current for the drive motors.

Together with the 1996 Tube Stock is the 1995 Tube Stock, the first series, which was equipped from the start with barriers between the individual cars. On older series this fall protection between the individual cars had to be retrofitted.

Use

The 1995 Tube Stock is used exclusively on the Northern Line. A bet on other underground routes is not permitted because of the risk of interference to signal systems.
