London Underground 1996 Stock

London Underground 1996 Tube Stock (or short only 96 tube stick ) is a line of electric railcar, which is used at the London Jubilee Line. According to the usual conventions London Underground, the term of the proposed year of entry (1996 ) derives. It should however be noted that in 1996 Tube Stock was ordered before the more modern 1995 Tube Stock and somewhat delivered earlier.

History

Originally, the series was ordered to the previously used on the Jubilee Line fleet type 1983 Tube Stock for the forthcoming Jubilee Line Extension strengthened. These older vehicles of the 1983 Tube Stock should be modernized. Since this proved to be too costly, they decided the Jubilee line completely equipped with new vehicles, so that 59 6- car trains were ordered, which replaced completely the 1983 Tube Stock. The first of 59 trains was made on 24 December 1997 service, the last on 31 July 2001.

In 2005, 59 trains used to date have been extended by a car and another four complete new 7- car trains were on 7- car trains, next ordered, so that today are 63 trains to operate on the Jubilee Line are available. All vehicles were built by Alstom in Birmingham.

Train composition and details

The 1996 Tube Stock consisted originally of six trains, each consisting of a Driving Motor Car (DM), Trailer Car ( T) and a Uncoupling Non Driving Motor Car ( UNDM ) exist. A Driving Motor Car is equipped with a driving cab and drive motors, one Uncoupling Non Driving Motor Car has even drive motors, but not a full cab, but only a Rangierfahrschalter to shunting in depots allow. In 2005, half of the half- trains was extended for an additional trailer car, so now yield 7- car trains with the formation of DM - T- UNDM - UNDM - TT -DM. The addition of the extra car was planned from the outset and therefore prepared, as the necessary driving power was present from the beginning and only had to be unlocked by a software update. A use in passenger service is only possible as a 7 -car train and allowed, among other things because the trains would otherwise not fit on the platform doors of the tunnel stations on the Jubilee Line Extension.

The 1996 Tube Stock was originally intended to be used together with older trains type 1983 tube stock, so in 1996 Tube Stock, in contrast to the slightly older 1992 Tube Stock for example get relatively low window, so that the vehicles the 1983 Tube Stock See similar. The vehicles are very similar in appearance to, the slightly younger and also built by Alstom, trains of 1995 Tube Stock, the car bodies are, with few details identical, but trains of 1996 Tube Stock with an additional carriages are longer than the 1995 tube stick with its six cars. Despite their outward similarity, the two series differ in interior design and technical features, so uses the younger 1995 Tube Stock IGBTs instead of GTO thyristors to convert the direct current into three-phase current for the drive motors, also uses the 1996 tube stock still bulbs for headlights and taillights while in 1995 Tube Stock already lamps with LED technology are used. Reason for these differences is the fact that the design of the 1996 Tube Stock was in 1991 frozen. The in 2005 newly purchased trains and carriages to extend differ in some details from the vehicles of the original delivery, for example, they get a black floor instead of a gray and amber LEDs instead of red.

What is common to the 1995 Tube Stock of 1996 Tube Stock, the first series, which was equipped from the start with barriers between the individual cars. On older series this fall protection between the individual cars had to be retrofitted.
