London Waterloo East railway station

Waterloo East is a railway station in London. It is located in the London Borough of Lambeth in the Travelcard Zone 1 The railway station is connected by a footbridge to Waterloo station, but otherwise operationally completely independent. In 2011, he was used by 6.638 million passengers.

History

The station under the name Waterloo Junction was opened in January 1869 by the South Eastern Railway. From 1935 he was called Waterloo Eastern, since May 1977, he carries the current name.

Originally a little-used track connection between Waterloo East and Waterloo Station, which led over the access ramp. In Herbert George Wells' novel The War of the Worlds, there is a scene where traveling on this track troop trains that are traveling to one of the landing sites of the Martians.

Plant

Waterloo East is a through station on the route to the terminus Charing Cross. Here trains arrive in the south-eastern suburbs and to Surrey, Sussex and Kent. The platforms have letters instead of numbers to avoid confusion with the platforms in neighboring Waterloo Station.

Tickets are only available from vending machines. Passengers who want to the ticket counter must go into the main part of the station. There is a link to 1999 opened metro station Southwark on the Jubilee Line. The station is managed by the Company Southeastern.
