Long Island (Whitsunday Islands)

Long Iceland is located in the Whitsunday Islands on the east coast of Queensland in Australia. The island is located one kilometer from the shoreline of the mainland. It belongs to the group of Molle Islands and extends over 9 kilometers in length and reaches at its widest point is 500 meters. Officially, the island group belongs to the Cumberland Islands. The nearest major town is Airlie Beach.

History

The Molle Islands were about 9000 years long an area of Aboriginestamms the Ngaro who were hunters and gatherers. They lived a nomadic with boats on the islands. Once the islands of this sea area were discovered and colonized by the Europeans, there were confrontations of the white colonialists with the Aborigines, who were thereby ousted from their original habitat and exterminated.

Today

Much of the island is part of the Molle Islands National Park. On this island there are three Tourist Hotel Resorts: Ocean Hotel Long Iceland Resort, Peppers Palm Bay and Paradise Bay, the latter being a resort for nudists. The island can be reached from Shute Harbour with ships. There are on the island three named named beaches Happy Bay, Palm Bay and Sandy Bay. Before the island can land on water flying boats in a particular zone.
