Loperhet

Loperhet ( Loperc'hed Breton ) is a commune with 3616 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Finistère in the Brittany region. It belongs to the community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Landerneau -Daoulas.

Geography

Loperhet is located about 12 kilometers southeast of Brest near the Bay of Brest on the highway E 60

History

The name comes from Loperhet loc, consecrated place, and Berc'het sainte, Brigida of Kildare. Other names for Loperhet were: ecclesia Sanctae Brigidae Loco ( 1218 ), Loperchet ( 1442 ), Loperguet (1535 ) and locus Bridget ( 1574 ).

Loperhet housed a priory of the abbaye de Daoulas ( Daoulas Abbey ). In the 12th and 13th centuries there was a hospice and a chapel belonging to a place of pilgrimage.

Culture and sights

In the church of Sainte -Brigitte, built in 1896, is a silver chalice from the end of the 16th century. In 1955 as a monument historique (historic monument) was classified. The church replaced an older church from the 17th century, which in turn replaced the oldest church, which had been mentioned in 1218 as Ecclesia Sanctae Loco Brigidae. The present church bell was cast in 1661, the entrance of the church bears the date 1645.

There are in Loperhet two burial mounds from the Bronze Age, both of which are privately owned. The hill grave in the village of Roc ' hellou was classified in 1930 as a monument historique (MH ). The hill grave in the hamlet Gorré Menez was in 1971 in the Additional List of Monuments historiques registered ( inscrit MH).
