Daoulas

Daoulas ( Daoulaz Breton ) is a commune in the north- west of Brittany in the département of Finistère with 1779 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). It belongs to the district of Brest and is the capital of the eponymous canton Daoulas.

Geography

The community Daoulas located 16 km southeast of Brest and about 480 km west of Paris. It lies at the confluence of the river and Mignonne Lézuzan which open as estuary under the name Daoulas in the Bay of Brest in the Atlantic.

History

  • The old village center built around the Abbey founded in the 6th century and rebuilt by the Viscount of Léon again in the 12th century.
  • The castle was destroyed in the 15th century by the British.

Traffic

  • The municipality can be reached by a descent of the highway E 60 (Brest -Nantes ) and another on the E 50 (Brest - Rennes) in Landerneau.
  • In Landerneau is a regional railway station on the railway line Brest- Rennes -Brest and Nantes. The train station of Brest is the end of TGV Atlantique to Paris.
  • In Brest is the regional airport Aéroport de Brest Bretagne.
