Lora Hirschberg
Lora Hirschberg ( * 1963 in Cleveland ( Ohio)) is an American sound engineer. She won the 2011 Academy Award for Best Sound for their collaboration on the film Inception, in 2009, she was nominated in this category for The Dark Knight.
Life
Hirschberg was born in 1963 near Cleveland, Ohio. She studied film and music at New York University. In 1989, she worked for The Spirit of '76 for the first time in the movie business, shortly after she moved from New York to San Francisco.
One of the first major Hollywood productions of her was the 1993 film Mrs. Doubtfire. Other major films in which Hirschberg collaborated were among others Titanic (1997), The Horse Whisperer (1998), Panic Room (2002), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) and between 2005 and 2010 the successful film adaptations of comics Iron Man and Batman by Jon Favreau and Christopher Nolan. Overall, she starred in more than 100 films as a sound engineer.
For the films Caught in the Dream Factory and Cinema Verite Hirschberg was nominated in 1996 and 2011 for the television Emmy Award. For her work on Nolan's The Dark Knight was nominated for Best Sound for the first time in 2009 for an Oscar in the category, but came away empty. Also at the BAFTA Awards it was nominated. The Satellite Awards she was awarded the Best Sound ( Mixing & Editing) category. At the Academy Awards in 2011 she won the award in the same category for the film Inception, also directed by Christopher Nolan. For the latter, they also won the Critic's Choice Award from the Broadcast Film Critics Association and the BAFTA Award. The Satellite Awards 2010, she was nominated twice with equal Man 2 Inception and Iron. Between 1999 and 2011 she was also nominated six times with CAS Award from the Cinema Audio Society.
Hirschberg lives with her wife and their two children in the San Francisco Bay Area.
