. Family for the Holidays ( Original title: English Home for the Holidays ) is an American film released in 1995 Jodie Foster was a director and film producer; the contractor Egg Pictures was founded by Jodie Foster.

Action

Claudia Larson (Holly Hunter), a single mother who works as an art restorer in Chicago. It is fired from her head and kisses him in their confusion; shortly after she learns of her teenage daughter Kitt ( Claire Danes ) that this wants to sleep for the first time with her boyfriend.

In this state of mind Linda goes to her hometown for Thanksgiving. There it is exposed to the quirks and little mean their relationship. The only support is her younger brother Tommy (Robert Downey Jr. ), who leaves on a possible crisis with his life partner in the dark and has traveled with another friend Leo ( Dylan McDermott ).

In the festive food it comes to a head, and her sister Joanne, who feels insulted after an argument, leaving her family rushed the parental home. Claudia visited her sister later to reconcile. Finally, they SAHT that they do not like each other would, because they would have only related to each other and goes.

During the tumultuous events Claudia and Leo have come closer. Leo, Tommy had initially presented only as his companion, is not, as assumed by Claudia, his new partner, but his business partner. After a brief interlude passionate Claudia decides against Leo. The next morning, Tommy and Leo travel together for a business partner and Claudia is brought by her parents to the airport. While waiting on the plane for departure, Leo is next to her and the two talk. Maybe they are but let it a try.

The experiences strengthen Claudia, who wants to look for a new job with new courage.

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun - Times on November 3, 1995, the film is neither a pure comedy or a drama film, but something of both. He praised the director Jodie Foster, who would have an eye for details. Ebert also praised the portrayal of Holly Hunter, which should have a human and three-dimensional role in the film; he compared her screen presence to that of Jodie Foster.

The magazine wrote Cinema, the film convince " carefully watched, seemingly familiar scenes ". The director joined the "outstanding ensemble of actors " " lovingly restored to a nuanced picture of the totally freaky, normal family ."

The film was nominated for the GLAAD Media Awards Film Awards and Young Artist Award ( for Claire Danes ).
