Loras Joseph Watters

Loras Joseph Watters ( born October 14, 1915 in Dubuque, Iowa, † March 30, 2009 in Winona, Minnesota) was an American clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church and Bishop of Winona.

Life

Loras Watters was ordained a priest on June 7, 1941 in the Archdiocese of Dubuque.

He was appointed on June 21, 1965 Auxiliary Bishop of Dubuque, as well as titular bishop of Fidoloma. The Apostolic Delegate in the United States, Egidio Vagnozzi, donated to him on 26 August of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were James Joseph Byrne, Archbishop of Dubuque, and James Vincent Casey, Bishop of Lincoln. On January 8, 1969 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. elected as the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Winona and officially introduced in this office on 13 March 1969.

On October 14, 1986 Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related.
