Louis Adolf Gölsdorf

Louis Adolf Gölsdorf ( born February 16, 1837 in Plaue, † November 28, 1911 in Vienna) was an Austrian engineer and locomotive designer. He was the father of Karl Gölsdorf, which later became section chief and director of mechanical engineering section in the old Austrian Ministry of Railways and was designed by Rudolf Gölsdorf, the deputy director at the Austrian Federal Railways.

Louis Adolf Gölsdorf received his education in Chemnitz and Dresden at technical schools and was then employed in the technical service at the Leipzig- Dresden Railway. In 1860 he was hired as a mechanical engineer in the locomotive works of StEG in Vienna, but moved in 1861 to the Southern Railway, where he soon took a leading position in locomotive design office. 1885 to 1908 he was director of the Southern Railway machines.

Besides its own locomotive designs he designed together with Anton Elbel Luggage locomotives for economic operations management that have been used on several Austro-Hungarian railways.
