Louis-Albert Vachon

Louis -Albert Cardinal Vachon, CC ( born February 4, 1912 in Saint -Frédéric, Canada, † September 29, 2006 in Quebec City, Canada) was from 1981 to 1990 Archbishop of Québec.

Life

Louis -Albert Vachon studied in Quebec the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology and received on 11 June 1938, the sacrament of Holy Orders. As part of ongoing studies he received his doctorate in Rome as a doctor of theology. Upon his return to Canada, he worked as a lecturer at Laval University, where he also took over management duties as vice rector and rector from 1960 to 1972.

In 1960 he was appointed Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Quebec. 1977 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Titular Bishop of Mesarfelta and Auxiliary Bishop of Quebec. He received his episcopal consecration Archbishop Cardinal Maurice Roy. After he had filed with reaching the age of 75 years at Pope John Paul II in his resignation, Vachon was in March 1981, his successor as archbishop of Quebec.

Pope John Paul II took him in 1985 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Paolo della Croce a " Corviale " in the College of Cardinals to. In 1990 he resigned the leadership of the Archdiocese of age. Later he lived for health reasons a few years in a nursing home in Quebec. Cardinal Vachon died in 2006 at the age of 94 years.
