Louis -Alexandre de Bourbon, comte de Toulouse ( * June 6, 1678 in Versailles, † December 1, 1737 in Rambouillet ), Duke of Damville, Penthièvre, Châteauvillain and Rambouillet, was a natural, legitimate son of Louis XIV with Françoise- Athénaïs de Rochechouart de Morte Mart, marquise de Montespan. He was a peer of France and held the offices of a large huntsman and Admiral of France.

Life

Louis -Alexandre was legitimized in 1681 and 1683 at the age of five years, Admiral of France and Knight of the Order of the Holy Spirit. At twelve, he accompanied his father on his campaign in the Netherlands, where he was wounded at the siege of Namur.

He distinguished himself in 1702 as a squadron leader in the War of Spanish Succession and added to the British Admiral Rooke on August 24, 1704 at the Battle of Vélez -Málaga a heavy defeat. Although the battle ended in a draw, but the losses of the British were significant.

1714 the king raised him, as well as his older brother, Louis -Auguste de Bourbon, duc du Maine, for himself and his descendants - with all the rights, including the succession - the princes of the blood.

Of the intrigues of his sister Anne Louise Bénédicte de Bourbon- Condé, Duchess of Maine, he stayed away, was from 1715 to 1723 a member of the regency council, and stood at the court - because of his kind nature, such as Saint- Simon reported - in high favor.

He died on December 1, 1737 at the Château de Rambouillet.

The Count of Toulouse was since 1723 with Marie- Victoire Sophie de Noailles, Marquise de Gondrin married. His son, Louis Jean Marie, Duke of Penthièvre, followed him into his office and as Grand Admiral. His granddaughter Louise Marie Adélaïde de Bourbon- Penthièvre married Louis Philippe, Duke of Chartres, later Duke of Orléans, and became the mother of the Citizen-King Louis -Philippe I..
