Louis-François de Bausset

Louis -François de Bausset Roquefort ( born December 14, 1748 in Pondicherry, India, † June 21, 1824 in Paris) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Life

After de - Bausset Roquefort had received his first training in Paris at the Collège La Flèche, he moved over to the seminary of St-Sulpice de Paris, where he completed his theological studies with a licentiate. Ordained a priest in 1773, he was Vicar General in 1775 in the Archdiocese of Aix in 1778 and vicar general and diocesan administrator of the Diocese of Digne ( Ecclesiastical Province of Marseille).

On June 25, 1784 appointed bishop of Alès, he received on July 18, 1784 in Issy consecrated bishop by the Archbishop of Aix, Jean de Dieu- Raymond de Boisgelin de Cucé. In 1788 he declined the appointment as Bishop of Grenoble. In 1791 he refused the oath to the Civil Constitution and went to Switzerland. Already in 1792 he returned to France, where he, however, after the fall of Maximilien Robespierre was serving a short prison sentence. Now in Villemoison alive, he resigned on 22 September 1801 his diocese. His poor health prevented the adoption of a new diocese, but he was born on March 21, 1806 canons at Saint -Denis, 1808 Member of the Council of the Université de France in 1816 and member of the Académie française. Already in 1815 he became a peer of France.

Pope Pius VII appointed Bausset on July 28, 1817 cardinal priest in the College of Cardinals, but he never received the red hat or a titular church. Since 1821 Minister of State, he took part in any conclave.
